It's I Who Builds Community

On my way home from a date with my dearest cousin, I scrambled to see Kenneth Cobonpue's gift to the Cebuano people. I've been hearing and reading advertisements about this so called "gift" which was located at the SM City Cebu, particularly the Northwing. I was expecting to see a red chair made of rattan with lights underneath it as depicted in his "I <3 Cebu" billboard. So there I was in the middle of the Northwing looking for a red chair. All I saw were red...red ornaments from the Christmas trees! Not a chance, I thought so.  I scanned around the wing not losing hope and I found this...

...which was similar to his design entitled "little people".

The design was entitled "Community". I really don't have any background on the design and what that really meant. Haha. But seriously, all I could think of are the words unity and cooperation. A simple artwork isn't just a mere display of talent. I take this as a wake up call to every Filipino to start building a community founded with unity and cooperation. It takes one red person to make that difference. This might be you.

Hail, My Taxi!

What a way to start the new year!

Effective January 15, 2011, Taxis roaming around the province of Cebu will start to charge at a php40.00 flag down rate and php3.50 for every three kilometers. Is that even just? I've been a commuter since I was in fourth grade and believe me, I've kept watch on every fare rise. They used to give out a number of reasons like the oil price hike and much more. Taxis are luxury vehicles - aircon, nice seats, music from the radio and sometimes a friendly driver. I remembered well that taxis only used to charge at a php20.00 flag down rate. There were even non-aircon taxis which used to cost less.

With the rise on the fare, I don't think commuters would like to ride in a taxi anymore. We're on a crisis for crying out loud, don't they get that? Luxury wouldn't be something we would all want. Money is becoming scarce. Poor drivers who would have less passengers and hooray for the jeepney drivers who would have to acommodate people who are tightening their budget. As for me, I'm sticking to my old habit of taking the good ol' trusted jeepney; even if I have to inhale a sackful of dust. haha.
