Hot-DOG on stick

As we were on our way down to the highway from the GK site at Maguikay, Mandaue, we saw in horror an ordinary man slaughtering a dog being hung on a bamboo stick. It wasn't a pig. No, not even a cow. A dog. An Azkal. A poor stray dog. I took a picture of it with my windows phone but because the car was running, I wasn't able to capture a clear shot. I attempted to take another one when my classmate stopped the car but a man passed by and the slaughterer caught us looking at him. He sure was scary looking!

I already posted this picture on my facebook account weeks ago when this came out but somehow I still feel that a simple post wasn't enough. I need to share how and where we found it. In case you want to report, please do so! Protect Animals' Rights! Uphold Ethics!

Beauty beget brains

I never had any dream of becoming a beauty queen although I had attempts of being one. The woman was forced actually. (See evidence below) But then that stirred my interest for beauty pageants.

These became a big issue for a lot of sectors emphasizing on the status of women. Some claim its degrading and demoralizing. Some say its fine, they're strutting for a cause anyway. The answer is not really clear and I think it would be difficult to draw the barrier between right from wrong, and beauty and brains. In my own perspective, beauty is relative and so is intelligence.

Ms. UP Cebu 2011 Candidates
This thought just came rushing into my head as I arrived home from watching the Miss UP Cebu coronation night at the Rizal Memorial Museum and Library. The last question asked for the finalist to take a stand on whether the pageant degrades them as a woman, or something like that. Sitting and fidgeting in my seat, my thoughts caused me to ask myself also. I find the question a bit difficult with all honesty, considering the sentiments of the conservatives. But in reality, there isn't any harm in showcasing what a woman can be and what she is capable of. There isn't anything bad about using a mere woman of beauty to advocate an issue to contribute to the change that this society need. If women can, men can do so to which is subject to the interest of the immediate society.
